As a little girl, my mom, sister and I used to take road trips to Long Island, NY to visit my grandma and grandpa. The times when books on tape totally beat out music and every major city we were allowed to have a lollypop. Memories, memories.
To say my grandmother is a fashionista would be the understatement of the century. She’s a fashion icon (to this day)-decked head to toe in St. John’s and Escada suits, paired immaculately with Ferragamo stacked heels and the perfect Dior Mademoiselle bag to match. As times changed and styles rolled in and out of fashion, she would move the “out dated” pieces to her basement where my sister and I would spend hours playing dress-up in nanna’s clothes. As we grew older, these “dress up” clothes became pieces we actually wanted to wear (sans shoulder pads) and the “look at this silly outfit, nanna!” turned into “can I have this, nanna?”
Insert this suede jacket. I’ve had it for quite some time and it still smells of my grand parent’s basement. Initially I wasn’t thrilled on the suede but loved the color so I kept it. And then fall fashion week rolled around and somehow I found myself loving the look of suede, so I pulled this jacket right out and have been living in it since. It’s a bit oversized, yet I still feel this air of sophistication every time I put it on-channeling my inner nanna I suppose.
