They’re everywhere. In boardrooms, on the red carpet and at your local coffee shop. The female suit has been and will always be in style, when done well. As women, we are lucky in that we don’t have to tailor our suit to perfection, like a man, for it to look great. We don’t even need to have matching tops and bottoms! There are so many options and colors to play with.
For this look, I went for a simple black and white combo. I was meeting some friends for drinks at our favorite spot, Gracias Madre, and wanted something a little dressier than my go-to denim. Black on black is the easiest way to bring a jacket and bottom together (if they didn’t already come as a set), as you can pretty much be sure they’ll look like a pair.
As a general rule of thumb, simple is better. Keep your color palette clean (see my guide for mixing prints), but other than that play with all shapes and cuts of pants and jackets to discover what works best for you. I love a wide leg + short jacket combo as another option to a more tailored leg + long jacket pairing, like I did here. SECRET: a men’s blazer makes for a killer oversized jacket!
